چکیده

The present work describes the methodology for predicting the behavior of extrapolation curves obtained in radionuclide standardization by 4pb-g coincidence measurements, applied to Na, developed at the Laboratório de Metrologia Nuclear of IPEN-CNEN/SP (LMN–Nuclear Metrology Laboratory). The LMN system consists of a proportional counter (PC) in 4p geometry coupled to a single or a pair of NaI(Tl) scintillation crystals. Two standardization techniques were used: the Sum-Peak and the Nuclear-Peak methods. The theoretical response functions of each detector have been calculated using the MCNPX Monte Carlo code. The code ESQUEMA, developed at LMN, has been used for calculating the extrapolation curve in the 4pb-g coincidence experiment. Modifications were performed in order to include response tables for positrons and coincidences with annihilation photons. From the calibration results it was possible to extract both the activity value and the positron emission probability per decay. The latter was compared with results from the literature. & 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Monte Carlo Simulation of Activity Measurements by Means of 4πβ − γ Coincidence System

The methodology for simulating all detection processes in a 4πβ − γ coincidence system by means of the Monte Carlo technique is described. The goal is to predict the behavior of the observed activity as a function of the 4πβ detector efficiency. In this approach, the information contained in the decay scheme is used for determining the contribution of all radiations emitted by the selected radi...

Calculating Reaction Rate of Positron Emitters During Proton Therapy Which Are Used In Online PET Scan by Monte Carlo Method

Introduction: Nowadays, cancer is one of the most important concerns in human being's societies, more than one-third of people in around the world will get cancer during their lives. Physical dose depth distribution characteristic of protons in a tissue is determined with a low dose in the entrance region, maximum dose in the Bragg region, and rapid decline takes place near the...

Attenuation Correction of Pet Image Reconstructed Based on Direct Filtering of the Raw Data Acquired Using Mcnpx Code

This paper presents the Monte Carlo simulation of the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanning technique using MCNPX code. The raw data generated by general MCNPX code contain a lot of unnecessary information for the image reconstruction process. This requires a large memory to store all this information. In order to reduce the needed memory, we introduce some modifications on the MCNPX code...

Estimation of positron emitter distributions from experimental yields

Online monitoring of ion beam tumor therapy by means of in-beam PET requires a precise simulation of the expected β-activity distribution on the basis of the treatment plan. This predicted distribution is then compared with the measured activity in order to draw conclusions on the correctness of the treatment in particular on the particle range. Up to now, for this Monte Carlo simulation the cr...

Application of Monte Carlo Simulation in the Assessment of European Call Options

In this paper, the pricing of a European call option on the underlying asset is performed by using a Monte Carlo method, one of the powerful simulation methods, where the price development of the asset is simulated and value of the claim is computed in terms of an expected value. The proposed approach, applied in Monte Carlo simulation, is based on the Black-Scholes equation which generally def...
